The following data lookup tool was created by Reach NC Voices using data from the Child Care Services Association early childhood data repository. To locate the original data source, click here, filter to the “Child Care in North Carolina” section and select the May 2019 reporting period. 

In the poll below, search for any North Carolina county to see county-level data on child care. For comparison, here are some statewide metrics on child care.

• 455,313 children under six in the state live in families where their sole parent or both parents are working.
• In March 2019, the state served 65,987 different children with child care subsidy and had 33,098 eligible children on the waiting list for subsidy.
• There are 5,956 licensed child care programs in the state.
• The average 4-star market rate for two-year-olds in the state is $815.
• If subsidy funds are unavailable or if a parent’s earnings exceed the income eligibility limit, the average parent in North Carolina would pay 30% of his or her gross income for child care.
