Perspective | NCSSM’s teaching, learning, and curriculum team offer resources for going virtual

As educational institutions across our state and nation transition to online and alternative course delivery methods, the North Carolina School of Science and Math’s (NCSSM) Distance Education and Extended Programs Division is poised with shareable resources for K-12 teachers and schools.

They call themselves the TLC: Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Team, but to K-12 educators and schools across North Carolina (and our nation) they may soon be known as “The Dream Team.” With the goal of improving student learning through intuitive design, innovative technology, and inspired instruction, the TLC, now more than ever, is providing supports for instructors at NCSSM and beyond in delivering high quality, differentiated instruction in a multitude of delivery models.

As NCSSM moves through an in-house response plan in line with the UNC System plan, the TLC along with the support of the school’s IT staff and other key personnel are operating in an “all hands on deck” mentality. The team is actively drafting just-in-time professional development session offerings, convening groups of tech-savvy faculty members to support their efforts, and engaging faculty and staff in the response efforts.

While schools and districts across North Carolina roll out their own efforts, we thought it valuable to share some of the sites and resources we have pulled together. At NCSSM, we have embraced innovation and creativity in the classroom since our first class started in 1980. The TLC’s Learning Innovations Blog offers a place to share classroom innovations. We encourage all with best practices, learning resources, and more to share to click here.
