58 visits, 58 strong

When I became president of the North Carolina Community College System in May of 2018, I initially didn’t think I would be able to visit all 58 of our colleges my first year. But I visited a few colleges, and then more invitations came in. The next thing I knew, it became an important goal to show we are 58 strong.

I love every nook and cranny of our state, so these visits were a joy. Quite frankly, I learn more from visiting places like Murphy, Jamestown, and Weldon, than I do in Raleigh. Listening to college presidents, faculty, staff, and especially our students – seeing their abilities, passion, and commitment to community colleges – was an unbelievable experience. I learned a lot about our signature education programs, the challenges our students face, and what makes our colleges so effective.

We have a wonderful community college system serving 700,000 North Carolinians annually offering hope, opportunity, and jobs. I’m proud and privileged to be a small part of it.
