Getting the story right: EdNC’s top five news articles of 2018

Nearly four years ago, we pressed “publish” on our first big big story — a deep dive into our state’s principal pay system. I was so nervous!

Ever since, thanks to the award-winning reporting of Alex Granados, Liz Bell, Adam Rhew, and now others on our team, EducationNC has become your go-to, trusted source of news about our students, our state, and our future. Monday through Friday and on many weekends and holidays like this one, we publish the information you need to be in the know.

We show up when there is a school shooting.

After Hurricane Florence, we were on the ground in eastern North Carolina long after the news cycle ended until the last student went back to school.

We sit in every significant government meeting, often the only news organization present, to provide transparency and sunlight.

We travel tens of thousands of miles each year across our state to not just find the news, but to get the story right.

This year, we learned just how much you like knowing about the weather! My thanks to Analisa Sorrells and her dad, meteorologist Tom Sorrells, for helping us out on that front.

Here are the news articles you read most in 2018. Thank you for turning to us. Thank you for trusting us. It is our privilege to do this work.

We believe a more connected and informed North Carolina is a greater North Carolina. When you invest in our work, you invest in us.

#loveNC,
