$3 million available for special needs families through state scholarship

The following is a press release from Parents for Education Freedom in North Carolina

Raleigh, NC – Families, school leaders, special needs advocates, and state officials will gather Monday, November 20th, for an information session regarding North Carolina’s first-ever Education Savings Accounts, designed to provide $9,000 for educational expenses for students with special needs. The Special Needs ESA will provide upwards of $3 million, in special needs scholarships, to North Carolina families in the coming school year.

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC) will host the event. PEFNC is a statewide organization that advocates for greater parental school choice, and led efforts during the spring legislative session by advocating for the new Special Needs ESA (taking effect during the 2018-2019 school year).

This open event is a chance for families interested in the program to hear directly from Senator Chad Barefoot, a sponsor of the Special Needs ESA, as well as the state agency that administers the scholarships (the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority).

What:              Students with Special Needs Scholarship Event

Where:            Nature Research Center (1st floor in the globe), 11 W. Jones Street, Raleigh

When:             Monday, November 20th, 6:00-7:00 pm

The event, which will be the third of three across North Carolina this month (also in Wilmington and High Point), will be a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from leaders behind the new Special Needs Education Savings Account, as well as key members of the special needs advocacy community from the Triangle.
