Faith in Focus: A look at the intersection of faith and education

Throughout our Faith in Focus series, one theme emerged from conversations with different congregations — community. From identifying food insecurity over the summer to creating a dual-language preschool, each congregation started by looking to the needs of their community. This concern for their neighbors was the seed that grew the programs, preschools, new parishes, and personal journeys that we discovered at the intersection of faith and education.

Open doors: A bilingual preschool

One of the things that I love the most about working in this church and this community is that I don’t ever have to get on a plane and everyday I meet people from different parts of the world.”

Open doors: The parish mentality

“We do have in our DNA this idea of always connecting what we do within the four walls outside of the four walls.”

Open doors: Breaking down barriers

“The things that we talk about in the sanctuary and the things we talk about in the classroom — there should be some evidence of those things actually being lived out in our lives.”

Open doors: Serving the school down the street

We don’t go in there and preach the word of God, but we do go in there and show them our love, and that’s all that those children need, is to be loved.

Open doors: A gift for giving

We have already traveled over five hundred miles to discover these stories and are eager to hear more from our North Carolina family. Do you have a perspective, program, experience, or idea you believe lies at the intersection of faith and education? We are seeking insight from all denominations and faiths as we continue to explore. Reach out by emailing cparker@ednc.org and let us know if you have a story to share and start following us on twitter at @EdNC_Faith
